Bieb-Juniper is a fictional library set in 2040 that serves as a safe haven for those who feel their digital lives are having too great an impact on them. I have embodied all my ideas for such a place in a physical library computer: an internet-free, slow, old-fashioned computer in which library visitors can interact with the Archive. Gathering knowledge, but also leaving knowledge behind for others – that is what the library means to me.
The technology I have used is a Raspberry Pi 4B, with an interface written in Python, in which I make use of the ‘Asciimatics’ library. The Commodore 64 has been converted into a USB keyboard and all other sensors are connected via the pins on the Raspberry Pi. Finally, the screens are controlled via HDMI and radio.
